Lloyds Bank has committed to keeping its cashpoint machine running in Upton-upon-Severn until a permanent new ATM is installed in the town. Although its branch on the high street has now closed, bank chiefs have pledged to work with the community to ensure local people are able to access banking services as well as protecting the 24 hour ATM service in the town. A mobile branch is now visiting the town to allow customers to bank in person and local people are also being encouraged to use the local Post Office which can carry out many banking transactions. The cashpoint machine in Lloyds Bank was temporarily switched off this week (October 16) to allow the company to manage it remotely as the property is vacated, but the company has committed to keeping this ATM open until a permanent replacement can be installed. The arrangements followed meetings which West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin hosted between the bank and local community representatives after the decision was taken to close the branch. Harriett commented: “There have been a few teething issues as the new arrangements are put in place and the bank is working closely with the local community to identify the best possible solutions. “It is obviously sad that the last branch in Upton has now gone but I am glad that the company has committed to keep the current Lloyds cashpoint operating until a permanent solution is in place. “Many local traders have been concerned about the lack of access to cash out-of-hours, particularly during peak season tourist activities and a full time solution is very important. “I hope that local Lloyds customers are comfortable with the new arrangements but I encourage anyone with an issue to get in touch.”
