Malvern’s cutting edge technology track record will get a further boost after it was confirmed that cutting edge mobile phone technology will be trialled in the town.
The town’s MP, Harriett Baldwin, has championed an initiative which will see 5G technology developed at Malvern Hills Science Park before it is rolled out to the rest of the country.
Harriett has worked closely with the four major mobile phone operators to enhance their local coverage network and the plans to use Worcestershire as a test centre were first suggested at a meeting with the operators in Pershore last year.
Harriett commented: “Malvern has been at the heart of technological innovation for eight decades so it is great to open another chapter in the town’s history with these 5G trials.
“Mark Stansfeld at the Local Enterprise Partnership has done a great job steering this proposal and I look forward to seeing the tests evolve and deliver some real benefits for local people and local businesses.
“Of course, there are still some areas in Worcestershire where we are pushing for better mobile phone connectivity but I hope that this deal persuades the mobile operators to re-double their efforts to deliver excellent coverage across the whole of West Worcestershire.”
