West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin this week praised a Malvern photographer whose pictures appear in an exhibition at the Houses of Parliament.
Maureen Mercer took one of the 12 images selected for the exhibition showing how technology affects older people. Hundreds of amateur and professional photographers took part in a nationwide search to find the best photographs.
Harriett said: “It was very interesting to see this exhibition and I was delighted that Worcestershire was represented.
“Maureen and her husband, Jim, joined me in Westminster to talk about the exhibition and it was good to be able to see her work displayed.
A panel of expert judges selected 12 winning images, not just for their photographic merit but for the way they challenged stereotypes related to the central theme of older people's experiences with technology.
Professor James Goodwin, Head of Research at Age UK, said: “This competition is valuable because it highlights the potential of technology in this fast-moving world to enhance the lives of older people.
“It also shows that technological solutions can be life-changing even when they are very simple.”
