Universities and Science Minister David Willetts has today praised local businesses working to develop an impressive cyber cluster in Worcestershire.
The Minister visited Malvern Hills Science Park to formally open the cyber skills training centre and said there was 'a real buzz' around the site.
And he praised West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin for championing the sector both locally and in Westminster.
He said: “I want to thank Harriett for inviting me here today to see what you have all achieved here in Malvern. There is clearly a real buzz about the place.”
The Minister was given a tour of the cyber training centre and given demonstrations on hacking. He also chatted with pupils from the Chase High School who are all undertaking computer science courses at GCSE and A level.
He also participated in a round-table discussion with local businesses and was given a presentation on local economic growth plans by Malvern Hills Science Park chief executive Alan White and Local Enterprise Partnership executive director Gary Woodman.
Harriett commented: “It was great to welcome the Minister to Malvern to see what we have achieved promoting cyber security skills.
“David Willetts is the latest Minister to visit and see first hand how our local cyber companies are leading the way.
“Together with QinetiQ, the county really is blessed with some of the best and brightest companies working in this space and I am sure the Minister left very impressed by what he saw.
“I will continue to champion ‘cyber valley’ and try to encourage more companies to move here to bring further jobs and growth for young people across the county.”
