West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has put out an urgent appeal for a buyer to come forward and take over running a busy village post office.
The village store in Lower Broadheath has been put on the market and notice has been served on the Post Office which is run at the same site on Martley Road.
Harriett was asked to intervene four years ago when the Post Office had to look for a replacement sub-postmistress for the store. The store owner has now put the shop up for sale and has told the Post Office managers of his plans to shut down the store in May.
The MP met with Post Office management last Friday (March 24) to discuss the issue and agreed to help promote the search for a new owner.
Harriett commented: “The Lower Broadheath Post Office has always been a valuable local resource and has a large regular customer base.
“I was disappointed to hear that the shop has been put on the market and it is time to spread the word to try and find someone who is willing to take over.
“I have discussed alternative solutions with the Post Office if the store is forced to close and I am assured that it will do its best to protect local postal services.
“Nevertheless, the decision to close the store is the prerogative of the owner and now is the time for the villagers to work together to try and protect this important community service.”
