Harriett Baldwin this week leant her backing to a campaign run by Macmillan Cancer Support to help people affected by cancer to keep working where possible.
Over 100,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and many more are affected by each diagnosis but most want to try to retain a level of normal living.
Harriett this week called on employers across West Worcestershire to play their part in helping people diagnosed with cancer to stay in, or return to, work after treatment.
A recently introduced law requires employers to make reasonable adjustments for employees affected by cancer. These can include flexible working hours and changes to the working environment where necessary.
Harriett commented: “A cancer diagnosis is often very serious news but many people want to try to keep as much of their normal life as possible which includes remaining at work where their condition allows and a swift return to work after treatment.
“Employers can do their bit by talking to affected staff and seeing if simple changes in their work hours or environment can help. I am a supporter of Macmillan’s campaign and I will be looking for ways that I can help in this campaign over the coming months.”
