West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has this week welcomed a £10,000 grant to help stimulate growth for Malvern’s local cultural scene. The money, which is part of the Government initiative led by TV celebrity and high street guru Mary Portas, will be used to build the town’s reputation as a ‘cultural destination’. Local artists and community groups will benefit from the cash as well as providing funding for local events and activities. Harriett backed Malvern’s pitch for the money and recommended the town’s bid to Government ministers. This week, Communities Minister Mark Prisk wrote to the MP confirming the award. Harriett said: “Congratulations to Malvern for winning this grant when there were 326 applications. It is important that we do all we can to help our towns put their best foot forward. “Malvern has a thriving cultural scene and I look forward to seeing some of our local talent to make a break as a result of this money. “Anything which encourages people to come and visit Malvern has got to be good and I hope that we will be celebrating our successful artists in years to come.”
