West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin this week backed a campaign to help vulnerable people keep their homes warm during the winter.
The MP joined with Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker to publicise a Government initiative to help vulnerable people to keep warm.
She attended a briefing on the Government’s Warm Front scheme which provides grants for pensioners and low income families who live in poorly heated or insulated homes.
The scheme is targeted at people who already receive a cold weather payment and it will contribute up to £6000 to pay for boiler repairs, new central heating systems and insulation work at county homes.
Harriett commented: “There are many older and vulnerable people who live in fear of a cold winter which will stretch their budgets to the limit.
“Some of these live in old, draughty homes with inefficient heating systems. They could take large chunks out of their annual heating bill by applying for this grant.
Greg Barker added: “With the coldest months of the year fast approaching, there’s never been a better time for people on low incomes to pick up the phone and apply for a Warm Front grant.
“Getting a boiler that works better or even just topping up loft insulation can lead to a warmer, cosier home in the future.
“It’s easy to apply - all you have to do is call 0800 3166004 - and, if you’re eligible, the Warm Front team will do all the paperwork for you.”
