MP Calls for Local Views on Tenbury Flood Defence Plan

West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has called on Tenbury people to express their views on plans to build a permanent flood defence scheme for the town.

And the MP also called on local people to add their names to a list of people who have already signed up to help deploy the flood defence gates in times of flood risk, when the scheme is in place.

The risks of fast rising water mean that the Environment Agency cannot reach the town in time to erect the multiple barriers and flood gates which will be needed to keep Tenbury dry.

Dame Harriett has today written to Tenbury residents and launched a survey to get people’s views on the scheme and also to ask people to sign up for the Flood Action Team.

Dame Harriett said:

“The flood defence plan is at a crucial stage where the Environment Agency needs help to overcome some of the issues flagged in the design process, including who will actually open and close the flood gates at any time of the day or night.

“I have written to residents to try and get their clear views on the scheme as well as calling for people to come forward to get involved in the Flood Action Team.

“Once I have assessed the results of the survey, I will then meet with the relevant people to press for the scheme to be allowed to move forward.

“The aim is for the local survey to help advance the plans to the planning process, and I am eager to see a final design confirmed and submitted for planning permission.”
