MP Harriett Baldwin today repeated calls to secure the future of rural county Post Offices. The MP has been working to help secure a future for important postal services in the outlying villages of her West Worcestershire constituency. And Harriett has asked senior directors from the Post Office to join her on a tour of her constituency to see first hand the challenges that local people face trying to access post office services. Harriett commented: “We have a number of local villages which have either lost their post office temporarily or are struggling to keep a service going. “It is my intention to show the senior post office directors that we have vibrant local communities which badly need a proper counter service.” The Government recently confirmed a £1.3 billion investment in the post office network, but under the agreement, several local post offices are under threat of permanent closure. Harriett recently met with post office officials and pressed for better support from the organisation in the county. Harriett added: “For many people in our outlying communities, the post office is a key link to the village and the wider world. “It is an important resource which needs protecting. I am working with local bodies to try and make sure everyone is working together to protect our services but national backing is vital.”
