MP Calls for Villages to Develop A46 Action Plan

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has called on villages along the busy A46 link road to share their ideas for traffic calming ahead of a formal review of the route.

Harriett Baldwin MP, Karen Rowley, Sue Morris and Elizabeth Eyre.

National Highways, which is responsible for the road, is investigating concerns raised by Harriett and fellow MPs Nigel Huddleston and Laurence Robertson following a series of serious accidents.

And Harriett visited the busy road and discussed concerns with Worcestershire County Councillor Elizabeth Eyre, Sue Morris from Sedgeberrow Parish Council and Karen Rowley from Ashton under Hill Parish Council.

Harriett said:

“I know the A46 very well and fully understand the problems that local people have turning onto and across this very busy main road.

“National Highways and the local police are going to look into this matter, but it is essential that in parallel, we look for our own short and long term solutions to making this road safer.

“There’s a strategic plan in development to improve the road so I will be keen for the planners to look at including a roundabout in the scheme.

“But the villages have come together to discuss this and have drawn up a series of immediate measures which have improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

“There are a lot of common-sense solutions on the table and I will hope that National Highways get cracking with their work before another serious accident occurs.”
