West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today opened a new nature reserve centre created in the heart of the Teme valley.
The Knapp and Papermill educational resource, at Alfrick, offers children and adults the chance to find out more about the countryside and local wildlife including newts and bats.
The MP opened the new centre – which is run by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust – at a ceremony on Friday April 13.
Up to 900 schoolchildren already visit the 27 hectare reserve to find out about local wildlife and it is hoped the facility will also now be able to offer adult education.
Harriett commented: “I was pleased to be invited to open up this facility which I know has been many years in the planning.
“A someone who has lived in the Teme Valley for many years and a member of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, I know that it is a beautiful area and I am keen to help promote our fabulous local habitat.
“A great deal of work has gone into this new centre and it will depend on the commitment of volunteers to keep it running smoothly.
“I know we are all grateful to the local organisations which have put the funding in place to make this centre possible and I hope it will be well used for many years to come.”
Helen Woodman, reserves team leader for the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, added: “The Knapp and Papermill is such a beautiful nature reserve that we’ve been hoping to have a facility like this for many years.
“Building sustainably and for the surrounding environment was very important.
“It’s great that there will be an indoor facility to help schools and other community groups but our volunteers will also benefit from this new building.”
