West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin will this week join MPs taking part in events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The MP signed the Book of Commitment in the House of Commons last week and will participate in events this week to mark the day of remembrance on January 27. Harriett commented: “It is important that we mark this anniversary and also remember all instances of genocide which have occurred across the globe. "If we remember these heinous past crimes against humanity, humanity stands a better chance of avoiding them in the future.” “Several schools from West Worcestershire are visiting the former concentration camps this year and it is an important part of our history to understand.” Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on January 27 – the anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “We are proud that Harriett is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day this year. “It is vitally important that we both remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust – as well as ensuring that we continue to challenge all forms of bigotry.”
