Harriett Baldwin MP will this week join local school pupils in an event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The MP signed the Book of Commitment in the House of Commons last week and will participate in events to mark the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27.
Harriett has also been invited to mark the anniversary at Pershore High School where pupils will take part in a workshop to learn more about events surrounding the German invasion of Poland in the 1930s.
Harriett commented: “Genocide and other crimes against humanity are an ever-present threat in the world so I feel it is important that we mark this important anniversary and attempt to learn the lessons of the past.
“It is so important that we, who have heard about these terrible events from our elders, pass the knowledge on to today’s children.”
Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust,
said: “We are proud that Harriett is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day this year.
“It is vitally important that we both remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust – as well as ensuring that we continue to challenge all forms of bigotry.”
