West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has congratulated Malvern’s leading defence company QinetiQ for winning a multi-million pound deal to supply a new military radar.
The world-leading defence research company has sold the latest piece of radar technology to the Ministry of Defence for supply to the field immediately.
The radar helps spot rockets at short-range and is expected to be deployed as soon as possible to help protect troops around the world.
Malvern’s scientists developed the very first radar eight decades ago and the latest evolution was developed by the research team in Malvern.
Harriett commented: “I would like to congratulate QinetiQ for developing such an important piece of military kit and I am pleased our own Ministry of Defence is the first customer.
“Radar technology has been at the heart of Malvern’s heritage for the many years and it is tribute to the talented people working in Malvern that we are still famous for our radar.
“One of QinetiQ’s core businesses is developing kit to protect our troops at home and abroad and a great deal of investment goes into the science and technology research work. This deal is yet more good news for Malvern’s brilliant brains.
“For generations, Malvern has been the home of very bright people and I am proud to support all the amazing technology innovations that are created from the labs of QinetiQ to the one-man-bands in garden sheds.
“Innovation is key to our economic success and Malvern could not be better placed for future growth and future prosperity.”
