West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the confirmation that Tenbury will be getting a temporary mobile post office service until the new franchise comes into operation in the town centre.
The MP has pressed for the short-term fix to allow local people to access services while the town’s Spar is adapted to allow the opening of its new post office counter service.
The consultation on the new location is due to start imminently but plans are well advanced to get the new site up and running.
But because of the delays starting the consultation process, the Post Office has been able to divert a mobile unit to the town on Tuesday afternoons, and the town council is being consulted about the location.
Harriett commented: “These are two great pieces of news – the mobile service will be a great help and I am pleased that we’re now able to confirm that the Spar is taking over the franchise.
“A formal consultation process still needs to get underway but in the interim, the mobile service will allow people to access services if they have to.
“It has been a very high priority of mine to keep pressing for this issue to be resolved as quickly as possible and I am glad that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“I look forward to seeing the new store’s plans taking shape and will be delighted to do my own post office transactions on the high street very soon.”
