West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has expressed her anger at the proposed closure of another Lloyds Bank branch.
Banks bosses have confirmed that they are planning to close the branch in Malvern Link following the closure of its branches in Barnards Green and Upton-upon-Severn.
The bank claims that the closure has been agreed because of declining customers using the bank and it will be urging customers to use the nearby post office for banking.
Harriett said:
“It is extremely disappointing to hear that Lloyds is further withdrawing from the local high streets and handing over business to local post offices.
“I understand that a quarter of Lloyds customers using their local branch in Malvern Link are aged over 75 and my principal concern is for them.
“Whenever a branch closure is announced, the news causes anxiety for these customers and I am hoping that the bank will do its best to support them.
“I’m glad that the local post office has had a recent refurbishment and I will be watching this matter closely to ensure that the store is able to cope with the extra work.
“I plan to talk in more detail about this planned closure with Lloyds Bank’s management and I’ll be keeping a close eye on how this affects both its customers and also the wider trading community.”
