MP Harriett Baldwin today vowed to feed in constituents’ views on solar feed-in tariffs after the Government announced a consultation on the reduction of its subsidy to solar power. The feed-in tariff for solar power has been so generous that a mini boom has arisen in Worcestershire and nationally, with almost all of the £867 million subsidy used up already. Climate Change Minister Greg Barker yesterday announced changes that would bring the subsidy rate down to target a five per cent return on investment for homeowners, from a double-digit rate of 10 to 15 per cent currently. Harriett commented: “Many of my constituents have already installed solar panels and they will not be affected in any way, nor will schemes that are ordered by December 12. "For the local companies that install solar panels, a 5% return to homeowners should still make the investment worthwhile for new customers "It should mean that more schemes are installed in total. With a lower subsidy, more people can benefit, as the money goes further. “Solar panel prices have sharply fallen and the subsidy does not need to be so large. "However, I want constituents to contact me if they feel that the changes will have a different effect on them and I will feed this information in to the Minister’s consultation.
