West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has toured a fast-growing Malvern business which is exporting its metal-detection technology across the globe. The MP was invited to meet with the senior management team from Metrasens in Malvern to talk about its growth so far and its long term plans for future growth. The company has developed a world-class scanner which is used around the world to detect metal objects – like mobile phones – and prevent them being used illegally in prisons and custody suites. The product has just been approved by the Home Office for use in the UK but it is already in use in prisons across the United States and other countries. The technology is also used in hospitals to prevent people being harmed by metallic objects in MRI scanners. The company grew by 24 per cent last year and now employs 44 people in its Malvern HQ and offices in the US. Harriett commented: “Metrasens started in the Malvern Hills Science Park and then grew into its current Spring Lane manufacturing facility. “The brilliant brains of Malvern are turning their inventions into world-class products with high-end manufacturing jobs here in Malvern. “I am really pleased that they continue to recruit locally and they believe that they get the best quality staff by basing themselves in the town. “They are an exporting success story, with ambitious long term economic plans for sales around the world and I am keen to help them grow in any way I can.” Photo: (l-r) John Hooper, Sheila Metherell, Jeremy McCoig-Lees and Harriett Baldwin MP
