West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has extended the invitation to local people to join her at a celebration tea to mark 100 years of women’s suffrage. This year marks 100 years since some women were first given the right to vote and women and girls from across the Malvern Hills district will gather to share, debate and celebrate what the anniversary means to them. The Malvern event will take place at Malvern St James on Friday, June 29 and school pupils will join with Harriett and other local female politicians to talk about the importance of the anniversary. The ‘EqualiTea’ is part of a series of events across the country encouraging young women to be inspired by the suffragette movement. Harriett commented: “There will be tea parties up and down the land celebrating the amazing work of suffragrettes and the huge victory won exactly 100 years ago. “This is a great opportunity for local women to come together and mark this celebration and hopefully inspire more young women to get involved. “As a female MP and as a Minister serving under our second female Prime Minister I will be delighted to join our own local EqualiTea and recognise the work of those brave suffragettes.” You can find out more information or reserve a place in advance by emailing engagement@malvernhills.gov.uk.
