West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin will tomorrow lead the fight for fairer funding for county schools after securing a debate in Parliament.
The MP will get the chance to make the case for improved funding directly to a Government minister during the debate in Westminster Hall.
And a group of Worcestershire MPs will join Harriett with the aim of making the case for better funding for their county schools.
Harriett has been granted the debate in Westminster Hall as dozens of worried parents, teachers and governors have written to her outlining concerns about funding settlements.
She commented: “It is an acknowledged fact that our county schools, particularly those in rural areas, face a shortfall in funding owing to an historically unfair formula.
“Worcestershire languishes at the bottom of a national league table and current proposals will not take effect until 2015.
“As a group, the Worcestershire MPs have lobbied the Department for Education to seek a better deal.
“However, in recent weeks, we have all been inundated by letters from concerned parents, teachers and governors asking that we try harder to get the message to Government.
“I intend to set out, in as clear terms as possible, the concerns of thousands of worried people who fear their children are losing out as a result of the current funding formula.
“My biggest concern is that small village schools will become unviable as they face tighter and tighter budgets.
“It is imperative that we do all we can to protect this vital resource and ensure that they continue to thrive and succeed.”
Local MPs Peter Luff, Robin Walker and Karen Lumley have all offered their support in the debate which will take place at 4.30pm tomorrow (October 23) and can be watched live at www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Live.aspx
