High speed broadband for the whole of Worcestershire should be a priority according to county MP Harriett Baldwin.
The MP for West Worcestershire was speaking after meeting with a senior BT director responsible for the roll out of the superfast broadband network.
Although fast broadband has been promised for more than 12,000 homes in Malvern many homes in rural locations struggle to get broadband connection capable of handling media downloads.
Harriett has met with BT director Bill Murphy to put the case for villages which have asked her to lobby for proper internet connections.
Harriett said: “A number of parish councils have asked me to intervene to try and help them to improve their internet provision. I have met with a senior BT director and he has promised to help us to find local solutions. He has also given me tips for improving broadband speeds which I have posted on my website.
“Villages like Shrawley, Aston Somerville, Hanley Castle and Eldersfield are located in internet slowspots and residents are very frustrated by slow speeds.”
Fast broadband is important to allow people to work from home, where possible and reduce pressure on the local roads and motorways.
Harriett added: “The Government has made £530 million available to deliver fast broadband to every home and office by 2015.
“I have been discussing with Worcestershire County Council the urgent need to put in a strong bid for funding.
“I will continue to work with the parishes and BT to see what we can do to help solve this problem.”
