West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has spoken up to protect an historic post box in Upton-upon-Severn. The eye-catching Georgian post box is set into the wall of the town’s post office but there are concerns that the box may be disused and even removed if plans go ahead to move the post office business to the High Street. Harriett visited both the current post office on Old Street and the proposed new site at Sean’s News and talked to local people about what impact the changes may have. She has fed these comments back into her consultation response. Everyone also loves the Royal Mail post box in Old Street, so Harriett has written to Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene asking her to assure the future of the post box. Harriett commented: “The Georgian post box is an iconic part of the town’s history and I know that many tourists have their photo taken with it when they visit Upton. “Our history is incredibly rich and valuable and I would not like to see this post box affected by the moving of the post office. “Often these little details get missed in the planning for a move, so I have written to make sure that the Royal Mail do their best to preserve both the post box and its operation when moving forward with their transfer plans.” Photo: Harriett Baldwin MP with the iconic post box in Old Street, Upton-upon-Severn.
