New West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin will today (May 17) meet with Tesco to discuss their planning application for a new store in Tenbury.
Harriett said: “I was made aware of the planning application during the election campaign. I am a regular shopper in this beautiful town and I value the contribution local family-owned businesses make to the local economy.
“I feel that a meeting with Tesco is essential to assess the impact of the new store on local businesses and I look forward to an open discussion.
“There are several family run stores in the town who will fear for their livelihoods and I, for one, will continue to shop at independent stores.”
“I understand there is still some further work needed before the application can be validated by Malvern Hills District Council.
Harriett will be meeting with Tesco in London today (May 17) following a walking tour of the town, discussing the issue with local residents and businesses, accompanied by Tenbury councillor and MHDC leader Phil Grove on Saturday May 15.
The West Worcestershire MP last week announced that she will be holding ‘mobile constituency surgeries’ and will be in Tenbury in two week’s time (May 28).
She added: “I am keen to get up and running quickly representing all the people of West Worcestershire, whoever they voted for. My surgeries details will be regularly updated on my website and I look forward to helping out.”
