Harriett Baldwin this week offered her support for a volunteering service operating out of Malvern library.
Harriett met with Kay Bromley who runs Malvern Hills Volunteering and representatives from Malvern Hills District Council to discuss the issue.
Malvern, like many towns in the county, has a strong voluntary sector but many good causes are always looking for new recruits.
The Malvern service also acts as a broker for out of work people looking for work experience while seeking full-time employment.
Harriett praised the service and offered to help extend the reach of the service to other parts of her constituency.
Kay – who is herself a volunteer – works alongside the district council and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau to find opportunities for local volunteers.
Harriett commented: “Kay does an important job and I join the district council in recognising the hard work that she does.
“The Government has now made it possible for unemployed people to get valuable work experience without losing benefits. I therefore encourage employers to contact Malvern Job Centre if they have work experience opportunities on offer.
“It was very useful to see the job that Kay does and I will be having further discussions to see if this service can be offered to other surrounding towns.”
