MP Harriett Baldwin has submitted her views on proposed changes which will re-draw electoral boundaries in 2015.
Plans revealed by the Boundary Commission propose the division of the West Worcestershire constituency into parts of two new constituencies – 57 per cent to Malvern and Ledbury and 43 per cent into Evesham.
Harriett, who was elected for a full Parliament as MP for West Worcestershire until the next General Election - likely to be on May 7, 2015 - has offered her views on the changes and submitted a written response to the consultation.
Harriett commented: “The principal aim has been to re-draw the electoral map to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600. Each constituency should contain a similar number of electors. It is only right that MPs should be asked to do more for less, just like the rest of the public sector.”
“I have listened to my constituents and prepared a written submission to the Boundary review.”
“My main concern under these initial proposals is that the people of Malvern Wells would be moved out of the Malvern and Ledbury constituency if these changes are adopted. Local residents have contacted me about this concern and I have argued for this to be changed in my submission.”
“Obviously, the proposals are just a draft and would not apply until the next General Election. I continue to work hard for everyone who lives in West Worcestershire.”
