MP Harriett Baldwin today praised the efforts of a Worcester company which is leading a local drive to help unemployed people into work. The MP met with staff from JHP which helps people find jobs and provides training to help them succeed in their new careers. Harriett sits on the Department of Work and Pensions Select Committee, which scrutinises the national programme funding some of JHP’s work. Harriett toured JHP’s offices on St Nicholas Street, Worcester, and met with job seekers. The company is part of a framework of local companies which find work for local people and get paid if the employee remains in the post for a specified length of time. She also had discussions with representatives from Serco, the national organisation which manages one of the two West Midlands employment programme contracts. Harriett commented: “The Work Programme was launched this summer to bring together a whole range of different and confusing job schemes. Providers are paid if they get candidates into sustained employment and keep them there for two years. “JHP seems to have good links with local employers and is helping local people come off benefits and into rewarding full-time work. “As a member of the Select Committee it was useful to meet with people who work one-to-one with unemployed people and I have several pieces of feedback to take back to the Secretary of State as he reforms the Welfare System to make work pay. “I was also able to discuss a few issues raised by my constituents and I look forward to hearing progress following our discussions.”
