West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin this week praised a primary school for their fund-raising efforts to buy solar panels and reduce pressure on their annual budgets.
The MP visited Pendock Church of England Primary School to find out more about the solar panel project and to meet with parents and staff.
Harriett also took part in a class ‘question time’ where pupils asked her about her roles and responsibilities as an MP.
The School Council also explained the solar project to Harriett during a tour of the school.
Harriett said: ”Pendock Pirmary School is a wonderfully run school in a gorgeous part of the countryside. The staff and parents are clearly handling today’s challenges well and I was impressed at how happy and engaged the pupils are.
“It is always a pleasure to visit my primary schools and I am continually encouraged by the service they offer, particularly in our rural communities.
“The solar panel project is just another example of how the community works together to help improve its facilities, not just for the pupils, but also the village.”
The school hall, which is also used for community events, will be getting the solar panels after taking part in a ‘solar schools project’.
Chair of Friends of Pendock School, Mechteld Blake-Kalff, commented:
"We were delighted that Harriett Baldwin visited our school today. She came to celebrate with us that we have reached our target raising funds for solar panels through the solar schools project organised by 10:10.
“The last £3050 was donated by the electricity company Good Energy and we are hoping to have our panels installed very soon".
Good Energy’s chief executive, Juliet Davenport, added: “Solar Schools is a fantastic project that’s putting clean energy into classrooms all over the UK. Good Energy is proud to be supporting Pendock Primary to reach the target after all of their hard work.
“It’s a great example of decentralised energy in action, and the long-term benefits of solar panels will send a strong signal to everyone that Pendock Primary's future is bright.
“By installing solar the school will be able to spend more money on books and less on rising energy bills.”
