MP Presses for Compensation Schemes During Roadworks

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local authorities to support businesses and home-owners who have been impacted by serious roadworks through the summer.

Two major road closures, in Lower Broadheath and Callow End, have resulted in significant inconvenience and in some cases, financial loss.

Formal compensations schemes have been put in place to help people who are out of pocket and Harriett has written to Worcestershire County Council urging it to help residents as much as possible.

Harriett said: “There are a number of major schemes being delivered in my constituency and I have had a number of people contact me asking for advice about lost business.

“I have been contacted by Cadent, who have a compensation scheme in place to help businesses in Callow End and I hope that there will also be appropriate support for those affected by the Lower Broadheath closures.

“I understand that major works such as these need to be carried during the school holidays to minimise disruption but I am also concerned that it can be peak time for hospitality and leisure business and small local shops.

“I hope that the roadworks are completed on time allowing people to get back to normal before the schools return.”
