Harriett Baldwin has called for better recognition and support people for who carry out full-time care work for their loved ones. Up to six million people across the UK provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled. The MP offered her support to a campaign to raise the profile of carers and to lobby the Government to give them fair treatment. National Carers’ Week – backed by a nine national charities - recognises the efforts of people who volunteer their time and resources to help people across the UK. Harriett commented: “It is important to highlight the efforts of local people who help their loved ones without financial reward. “Most people will, at some time in their lives, have to help out a friend or family member through illness or disability and there is a huge cost to this effort. “This is a huge contribution to society and it is a task that often goes unrewarded and unthanked. “I would like to make sure that this week we all say thank you to the carers and the important the have done in the past and may be doing right now.”
