Harriett Baldwin today called for local views on plans to start a dedicated TV channel for Malvern. The Government today announced plans which could lead to Malvern having its own television station as part of a nationwide plan to increase the number of local TV channels. Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt today announced a consultation process to investigate the views of local people. Twenty pilot stations will be considered from a shortlist of 65 towns across the UK. Malvern has been selected as a potential location after a study by Ofcom on available transmitter capacity. The Government is now seeking expressions of interest from people who may want to run a station in these areas. Harriett commented: "It is interesting that Malvern has been considered as a potential location for a new TV station. "There is a strong civic spirit and lots of community groups which would benefit from these plans. "I am asking people to let me know what they think about this and whether they think Malvern TV is a good idea. "A consultation event will be held in Birmingham on August 18 and I would like people who have views on this subject to write to me at the House of Commons so I can feedback viewpoints directly to the Government."
