West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has repeated her call for Government funding to deliver the permanent flood defence scheme for Tenbury Wells.
The MP called on Environment Secretary Steve Reed to allocate money from a £2.4 billion to deliver the scheme being developed for the town.
Last week, Dame Harriett met with the local Environment Agency team to ensure that they have all the information they need to allow the scheme to be finalised and put forward for planning permission.
And the MP is also planning to lobby the Flood and Coastal Erosion Committee which allocates flood defence funding in collaboration with the Environment Agency.
Dame Harriett said:
“The Environment Agency has spent a huge amount of time and money getting the Tenbury Wells scheme developed and ready for planning approval.
“I’ve kept the pressure up in Westminster and yesterday, in the House of Commons, I urged the Department to raise the scheme on their priority list in the light of the terrible events of the weekend.
“Tenbury needs to know that this Government remains committed to the scheme as it clears up from yet another flood. I am hopeful that Ministers have seen what a terrible impact this flood has had on the local community and that a flood scheme is so close to moving forward.”
