West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has this week offered her thoughts on a consultation run by the county council into how they spend their “Supporting People” budget. The MP has responded after collating views from her constituents regarding the provision of services across a wide range of services including domestic violence refuges, support for homeless people and patients who need extra care after leaving hospital. Harriett highlighted the importance of helping to ensure the Malvern Foyer and the South Worcestershire Nightstop remain open for young people fleeing family strife and leaving prison. The MP also highlights the work of Howbury House, Storer Court and Williams Court who all play an essential role helping the local elderly population enjoy a better quality of life. Harriett commented: “It is hard to tell from the consultation exactly what services will be affected and what specific changes will occur. “However, I am passing on the feedback from my constituents, which is that they really value the wardens and activities at Storer Court and Williams Court in Malvern and the accommodation at Howbury House. “There are also services such as domestic violence refuges that we must ensure are protected to give people a safety net at time of crisis. Again, it's not clear from the consultation exactly what changes are proposed. “With the Worcestershire Well Connected pilot joining up NHS and adult social care funds, it would seem to me to make sense to include warden accommodation for the elderly in the category of extra care housing that actually allows people to stay out of hospital.” | Future Lives Consultation
