West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today spoke up for fair trade with the third world during a talk to county schoolchildren. The MP was talking to children from The Chantry school in Martley as part of Fairtrade Fortnight making children aware of the initiative which helps third world farmers receive fair prices for their products. The school is an active supporter of the Fairtrade initiative and is currently investigating sourcing its school uniform from Fairtrade sources. Harriett has just returned from a trip to Ethiopia with Save the Children and she was able to talk to the children about some of her experiences during the trip. Harriett commented: “I think the schools commitment to Fairtrade products is admirable and it was great to have a discussion about how Fairtrade helps third world producers. “I was delighted to be able to speak to the pupils at The Chantry and hopefully I can do my little bit to persuade people to look first at Fairtrade products to help others less well off than ourselves.”
