West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has offered her support to a charity which helps train staff delivering specialist care for premature and sick babies. Harriett attended an event held at the House of Commons to discuss the provision of neo-natal care across the UK. And the MP also met a county mum who lost one of her twins after they were born 17 weeks premature. Kate Branchett and her father talked to the MP about the care they received and the importance of proper investment in specialist nurses. Only one of Kate’s twins – Molly – survived and her story was featured on a television programme fronted by Coronation Street actor Kym Marsh. Harriett commented: “I welcomed this opportunity to discuss an issue that affects a large number of families across Worcestershire. “We all agree that specialist nurses are crucial to provide the right level of care for premature babies and we must also ensure the right support network for families who go through this dreadful experience. “I support the work of Bliss to raise issues facing the Health Service at a national level and applaud the work they do to improve the work of doctors and nurses in this field. “Our local university in Worcester is well known for its nursing courses so I hope the next generation of specialist nurses will want to live and work where they trained and provide care for local people.
