West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin has formally opened a reclaimed phone box which is being used to display local village information and share paperback books.
The old phone box was bought from BT and has been converted into a mini-library with books to share and a notice board for leaflets about local community events.
Local people are encouraged to come and borrow from a supply of more than 100 books and share their own books.
The phone box, outside Malvern Wells Village Hall, has been restored with a grant from Worcestershire County Council and is the brainchild of local residents Mike Jackson and Ken Beecroft.
Local organisations such as the WI, the Wells Players, All Saints Church and the Wells Club have taken the opportunity to put leaflets and posters in the kiosk.
Harriett commented: “I was honoured to be asked to formally open this phone box. It is a great way of re-using a community resource and helping to keep people informed about local events.
“I am keen to support any initiative which encourages reading and this resource is a welcome addition to the ever-improving collection of libraries which we enjoy in Worcestershire.”
