New MP Harriett Baldwin is urging local businesses to come forward with views on how to improve economic development in West Worcestershire. The West Worcestershire MP has spoken to the local branches of the Institute of Directors and the Federation of Small Business to start the debate on the future of regional development agency Advantage West Midlands. Harriett commented: “I was present in the House of Commons discussion on the future of the regional development agencies and it is clear that across the country, there is a mixed response. “One or two agencies will be immediately disbanded, but the jury is still out on our local agency – Advantage West Midlands. “Business Secretary Vince Cable was clear in his view that the Government will act on the opinions of local businesses and I am seeking feedback in order to make my recommendations.” In the same debate, Harriett also posed her first question in the House, to Minister for Employment Relations Ed Davey. The West Worcestershire MP was seeking answers on Government plans to extend flexible working rights to more employees.
