Four years on from the week when the County suffered from terrible floods, West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin welcomed news on two more key projects planned to protect residents from major flooding. The projects – in Powick and Kempsey – are both making important progress and Powick’s work is due to start next month. The Environment Agency last week wrote to Harriett informing her that a contractor has been appointed, and as planning permission has already been approved, the work can start in the middle of August. The Agency has also secured additional funding from the Regional Flood Defence Committee for the work in Kempsey and work should start this autumn once planning has been finalised. Harriett commented: “Six flood defence projects in West Worcestershire have been in gestation since that terrible week in 2007 – Pershore, Uckinghall, Upton-upon-Severn, Powick, Kempsey and Tenbury Wells. I am pleased that Pershore and Uckinghall and the Upton New Street schemes are now complete and Powick and Kemspey are about to start. I will persist in fighting for proper flood defences for Tenbury Wells too. “Tremendous progress has been made for these communities and I am keen to pay tribute to the continuing work of the Environment Agency and our local councils."
