West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the news that the long-running saga to build a permanent traffic light junction is nearing its solution. After months of negotiations and nearly two years of delays, the housing developer Persimmon will finally deliver on its promise to complete the road junction. The MP has met with both county highways chiefs and the house builder to try and find a solution to allow the approved construction work to take place. Drivers are currently held up at the junction at Station Road by temporary traffic lights which have caused extra delays for commuters. But Worcestershire County Councillor Alan Amos, who is in charge of the county’s highways department, has written to Harriett confirming that work is now expected to start during the school holidays. Harriett met with the councillor to discuss highways issued and raised the concerns of local people as well as urging him to look carefully at the plans to develop the new Pershore Link road junctions which will aim to take heavy traffic from the local business parks away from the centre of the town. Harriett said: “This whole saga has been extremely frustrating for local people but I am pleased that we are finally close to a solution. “The traffic light solution was pledged as part of the original planning permission and I am told this work will now start as soon as Pershore High School has broken up for the summer. “I have made the point that it is important that the county highways team learns from this episode. “Personally, I have met with local councillors and received dozens of local views about this junction and the new link road. I hope that the county team will ensure that all views are taken into account when the Pershore Link Road construction work is planned. “However, as one of the many motorists who regularly using this road, I will welcome a free flowing junction which works well both for road users and pedestrians.”
