West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local community groups to apply for free sporting equipment left over after the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Games organisers have sporting kit including bikes, martial arts mats, weights, T20 cricket equipment, basketballs, boxing gloves and weights, as well as general equipment, such as cones and bibs, are being made available to local sport and community groups across the West Midlands.
Community and sporting groups are encouraged to visit the Sport England website to get more information and to apply.
Harriett commented:
“The Commonwealth Games were a huge success and I made a couple of visits to Birmingham to see a variety of events and was really impressed by the smooth running and fantastic atmosphere.
“From the Queen’s Baton Relay through to the closing ceremony, this event has been truly inspirational, and it is great news that the legacy will be extended with this massive giveaway.
“I hope that local community groups will get involved and access some of the 15,000 free items that will help more people to get involved in local sport.”
