West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed news that the Government is planning to invest in cyber terrorism research – offering good news for scientists and security experts in the county.
The Government’s Strategic Defence Spending Review this week identified £650 million of new investment to develop a National Cyber Security Programme. Much of the expertise in this field is in Malvern and Cheltenham.
Cyber crime and cyber terrorism were highlighted as increasing threats facing the country. The fund will allow UK companies to develop technology to help the fight against these threats at home and abroad.
Harriett commented: “I am pleased to hear that the Government is planning to invest in the skills and expertise which have been developed over many years.
“It is clear that there is a compelling case for investing in Malvern and all the experts who live and work here. I look forward to working with the Government and local authorities to see how we can help local businesses to make the most of this opportunity.”
