West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed Environment Secretary Owen Paterson to a whistle stop trip around the prestigious Royal Three Counties Show.
The Secretary of State visited the county in January to view the successful flood defences operating in Upton-upon-Severn.
Farming is an important part of his portfolio and the Government Minister committed to come to Malvern to tour the show and help celebrate its new ‘royal’ title.
Harriett commented: “The show is now one of the UK’s premier agricultural shows and draws in visitors from all over the country.
“This is a time when it is important to show our support to farmers who have suffered from diseased livestock and failing crops for several years.
“I was pleased to be able to welcome Owen Paterson to Malvern and to join with him showing our public support for the vital farming community in such a beautiful setting.”
Harriett took a tour of the showground and held discussions with farmers as well as attending the Federation of Small Business show stand.
Harriett added: “It is always a pleasure to see the livestock on display and celebrate our world-famous produce.
“These days local ingredients are becoming increasingly popular so it is great to see so many local small businesses cropping up to supply this need and keep our economy growing.”
