West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has highlighted measures which will help elderly and vulnerable people to keep their homes warm during periods of extreme cold weather.
With sub-zero temperatures recorded last week and the cold snap predicted to continue, a payment of £25 is being made automatically to elderly people and vulnerable households on selected benefits.
This is on top of the annual single payment made to pensioners and the help offered to all households earlier in the year to help with their increased energy bills.
Harriett said:
“I know that many people are worried about their heating bills, and with the extra pressure of severe cold weather, this is a troubling time.
“I am eager to share the message that for the most elderly and vulnerable, an extra £25 payment has been triggered and is on its way so people should not worry about keeping their heating on and staying warm.
“The cold snap has covered the whole of West Worcestershire and this extra payment is aimed specifically at giving local people peace of mind.
“I’m also urging neighbours to keep an eye on their vulnerable and elderly neighbours at this time to make sure they are safe and warm.
“The Government has moved decisively to help as many as people as possible to deal with higher energy costs and I have been writing to constituents about all the ways that they can access support through the Energy Bill Support Scheme, the Household Support Fund and other important measures.
“We all hope that warmer weather will arrive across the country soon, but it is important to share the confirmation that extra help is there for those who may need it most.”
