West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today welcomed Government plans to bring fairer funding to county schools. The MP has campaigned for more than four years for a fairer funding package alongside her Westminster colleagues Robin Walker MP, Sir Peter Luff MP, Karen Lumley MP and Mark Garnier MP. Education Minister David Laws today announced an improved relative funding deal for Worcestershire, which will get £4.9 million in additional funding in 2015-2016. Harriett commented: “I have campaigned on this issue on behalf of local schools for many years. We are lucky to have good schools in the County which do a remarkable job on much less money than their neighbours in Birmingham. “The Chancellor announced a review into this issue last year and I am very pleased that we are moving in the right direction. “I welcome the Government's statement. This will be the first time in a decade that funding has been allocated to local areas on the basis of the actual characteristics of their pupils and schools, rather than simply on the basis of historic levels of spending. “There is still work to be done to move towards a more even national approach but this is a great first step to bring equality to our local schools.”
