Harriett Baldwin today welcomed Government plans to review education funding this summer.
The review – announced today by Education Secretary Michael Gove – will look at the balance of funding for schools.
Harriett has been a long-time campaigner for fairer funding for Worcestershire schools, which are the 10th lowest funded per pupil of the 141 local authorities and she welcomed this fresh look at the issue.
Harriett commented: “I am sure that Worcestershire schools will welcome this news and I am pleased that the Government is listening to its local MPs.
“Our schools have traditionally suffered in funding settlements and find themselves treated as the poorer cousins to their counterparts just across the county boundary in Birmingham.
“I have been working hard with my colleagues in the House of Commons to make the case for a new formula and this is a big step towards a better deal.
“I encourage all our local schools and parents to write into the consultation.”
