West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the Government’s confirmation that European Union workers planning to settle in the UK will be able to stay without having to pay a fee.   The changes, which will come into effect when the UK leaves the EU, will mean that people wishing to settle in this country after Brexit will not be left out of pocket.   The settlement scheme will open when we leave the European Union and the Prime Minister confirmed yesterday (January 21) that there will be no fee for people applying under the scheme. People who have already applied to stay will have their fees refunded.   Harriett commented: “European workers are extremely valuable to our local economy doing vital jobs for national employers like the NHS, working in jobs as diverse as manufacturing and cyber security and even carrying out important tasks for our local farmers and food producers.   “I welcome this news that EU nationals who wish to settle in the UK will not be out of pocket by apply to remain here and I hope this news brings some reassurance both to workers and their employers.”
