West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that banking services for Tenbury Wells will be reviewed once again to make sure the right options are available for local people.
The MP wrote to the chief executive of LINK requesting the review following a decision to refuse a permanent banking hub when the town loses its final bank – the TSB on Teme Street – next May.
LINK – which is responsible for creating banking hubs and making sure people have proper access to cash and banking services – has confirmed that it will reopen and review the decision in co-ordination with the Post Office, which is run out of the Spar.
Dame Harriett said:
“I have written to LINK a couple of times in recent months to press for a new review to give the town the best possible chance of getting a permanent banking hub.
“Having spoken to LINK, TSB and the Post Office, it is clear that they should get around a table and work out what is best for the town.
“Next May, Tenbury’s banking will be limited to a once-a-week TSB pop-up hub and any banking services that can be carried out at the Post Office – which wants to be ready for the extra demand that will come their way.
“A town the size of Tenbury which is an economic centre for the larger surrounding area really needs decent banking services and this is a chance for LINK to look again at the bigger picture and work out what is best for businesses and local residents.”
