West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed further flood defence work completion for Powick village.
The MP attended the opening of the flood defences below the village and praised the efforts of Environment Agency delivering another local project on time.
The Powick flood alleviation scheme consists of a massive bund to hold back flood water which surges along the sides of the main southern link road around Worcester. It protects 19 homes and will also play a key role ensuring the A449 link road between Malvern and Worcester remains open.
Harriett said: “I pay tribute to the work of the Environment Agency which has once again completed a project on time.
“As we saw in July 2007, it is vital that the A449 stays open for emergency vehicles when there is flooding.
“I know that the local parish council has also worked hard to press for this scheme and I commend Powick residents on all the hard work that goes into local flood defence schemes.”
