West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed measures which will see workers get extra cash in their pay packets from this month.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt reduced National Insurance contributions to ten per cent at the November Autumn Statement meaning that the average worker will be £450 better off as a result of this tax cut.
A household with two working people will be £900 better off, teachers and police officers will be £630 better off and doctors in training will be £750 better off.
The tax cut, which came into force on January 6, was part of a series of measures to simplify the National Insurance tax system as well as permanently cutting business taxes by £11 billion a year.
Harriett said:
“This measure will be a great boost for hard-working families who will see more of their hard-earned pay in their pockets after Christmas.
“The Government has taken decisive steps to help people with the cost of living and with inflation now coming back under control, I hope people are feeling more positive about the future in 2024.”
