West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news which is expected to see the return of a post office in Kempsey.
The Post Office has called on local people to comment before formally confirming the service re-opening in the village after a six year absence.
It is hoped that a local post office counter service will be opened up in the McColls store on Church Street from early next year.
Harriett has lobbied the Post Office senior management to secure a return of the postal service to Kempsey and took Network Director Kevin Gilliland in to the store during a visit to Worcestershire in 2012.
Harriett said: “I brought a delegation from the Post Office to Worcestershire to come and visit a number of villages and took Kevin in to meet Mr and Mrs Purewal during our stop in Kempsey.
“I am really pleased that this work has directly led to the planning for a resumption of a postal service.
“I hope that people will support these plans and soon we will see a fully functioning local post office service available not just for the people of Kempsey but those people who want to avoid driving into Worcester.
“I expect to receive a full update on the plans in due course and hope that we will have a service up and running by early next year.”
